Learning Procreate is the best thing I’ve done for myself as an artist!
If I can learn Procreate, you can too! I’m not a naturally tech-savvy person. I learned how to use Procreate by watching Skillshare classes.

Within two and half weeks of watching a Skillshare Procreate class, I created my first Procreate painting. (I'm a slow, methodical learner.) But, within 15 months, I created 200 more Procreate paintings. (The first painting is the hardest. It's easy after that.)
Below are the four classes that I took to learn Procreate, in the order that I took them:
Procreate for Beginners: Learn the Basics & Sell Your Artwork
This class teaches you the core skills in Procreate by covering five projects: drawing over photos, illustrating a tropical leaf with vibrant textures, creating a mandala with the Assisted Drawing tool, hand-lettering, and creating a citrus pattern with isolated textures. Because this class is structured as five projects, it made it more manageable for my mind to grasp what you can do in Procreate. If you learn best by mimicking a teacher’s painting, this class will be an especially fantastic guide to help you start using Procreate.
Design and Prepare Digital Art for Print on Demand
This class covers one project: how to paint a butterfly with the Procreate Assisted Drawing tool. Since this class focused on only one project, it was a fabulous second class for me to understand each of the Procreate actions needed to create an art piece from start to finish. This class helped solidified the skills I learned in the above-linked Cat’s Procreate for Beginners class.
Introduction to Procreate: Illustrating on the iPad
This class doesn’t focus on creating an art piece in Procreate. Instead, this class provides a wonderful overview of Procreate’s different tools. Since this was the third Procreate class I watched, this class created a framework of understanding in my mind. After watching this class, I felt confident creating my first Procreate painting in my own style (versus duplicating a project in one of the above Cat Coquillette's classes. Mirroring a teacher’s project isn’t my preferred learning style.)
If you want to learn lettering in Procreate and are new to Procreate, this is THE CLASS for you! (I’m not a lettering artist. But I’m grateful that the fourth Procreate class I watched was this 2.5-hour class. This class had more details about how to use Procreate. As a result, this class created a fuller understanding in my mind of how to use Procreate.) After watching this class, I felt equipped to make lots of my own kind of art in Procreate.
Teela’s class covers four lettering projects in Procreate. She gives you her actual Procreate files. This way, you can study each Procreate layer in each of her projects. Seeing the marks and colors in each layer really helped me understand how Procreate works.
Procreate Practice Fun: Learn Illustration on the iPad in 4 Projects
I recently discovered this class and I wanted to highlight it because this project-based beginner-friendly Procreate class is a wonderful way to learn Procreate. I love all of Brooke’s classes. Her personality is delightful and she’s excellent at explaining how to do things. One of my FAVORITE teachers!
Florals in Procreate - Learn the Basics and Add Your Own Flair
This delightful class includes flower reference pictures, free Procreate brushes the teachers used in the project, her color palette for you to upload to Procreate, and her flower sketches.
How to Paint Modern Gouache Florals on Your iPad in Procreate
Includes seven free Procreate brushes and practice sheets! Almost every Skillshare class that Liz teaches includes free Procreate brushes. If you want to accumulate free Procreate brushes, you could just focus on watching her insightful classes.
Fun with Florals: Create Flowers with Dimension & Personality in Procreate
I love Gia! I love the stylized look of the flowers she teaches in this class. This class includes flower drawing guides & flower composition templates.
It’s so much easier to draw and paint faces in Procreate because you can trace photographs. Then, you can alter your traced drawings to create your own style of face portraits.
How to Draw Cute Characters with Simple Shapes: Let's Draw Bears
Class also includes five Procreate shape brushes used to create her adorable bear character.
Negative Watercolor Painting in Procreate
Includes free Procreate brushes! (Most of her Skillshare Procreate classes include free Procreate brushes! Great way to stock up and save on unique brushes!)
I especially LOVE her free fur Procreate brushes! They are among my FAVORITE brushes!
I learned how to animate in Procreate by watching the below Brooke Glaser and Rich Armstrong classes:
